Opportunity and challenge

With a focus on health and wellbeing, sports at IGS includes access to a gym, a rooftop basketball court, nearby Wentworth Park and the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre.

Sports

All IGS students learn valuable swimming skills and take part in swimming, athletics and cross-country carnivals.

Bringing the IGS focus on personal achievement into the sporting field, students can gain representation at regional, state-wide and national levels and participate in Championship Days in netball, basketball, touch football and soccer.

Compulsory sport for Years 7 and 8, on Tuesday afternoons, includes competitive and recreational activities such as surfing, skating, soccer, netball, racquet sports, indoor climbing, various martial arts, basketball and general fitness.

Outdoor education

As part of the School’s vision to grow world ready, tenacious and confident individuals, all students are encouraged to try new activities.
Years 5 and 6 attend an overnight outdoor education camp, and outdoor education continues in Years 7, 8 and 9 with a progression of increasingly challenging camps.
Students explore and extend their comfort zones, discovering new strengths.
Year 10 students explore Tasmania during SAGE week, trekking, kayaking and Writing the Island.
