Year 10 Student Takes Flight at the Royal Aero Club

Year 10 student Elias recently participated in the Royal Aero Club’s Try and Fly Weekend at Camden Airport, gaining insight into the world of aviation and pilot training.

Designed for students with an interest in flying, the program offered participants the opportunity to learn about aviation theory, meet experienced pilots and take to the skies under the guidance of qualified instructors.

The day began with a briefing covering the fundamentals of flight and the history of the Royal Aero Club.

“I discovered that the Royal Aero Club is six days older than Qantas and five months older than the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF), whilst also being Australia’s largest volunteer-run flight training organisation,” shared Elias.

Following the briefing, Elias was paired with an instructor and introduced to a Cessna 152 aircraft. He then took part in a practical flying session, where he had the opportunity to apply what he had learned.

“I learned how to take off unaided and perform certain maneuvers, with views of the Blue Mountains and the new Western Sydney Airport, making it an unforgettable experience,” he said.

Throughout the day, Elias also received valuable career advice from his instructor, gaining insight into the various pathways and opportunities available within the aviation industry.

Reflecting on the experience, Elias said the program provided him with a deeper understanding of the skills, training and commitment required to become a pilot.

“Whilst being both enjoyable and educational, it further strengthened my interest in aviation and has inspired me to continue exploring aviation as a future career.”

The experience not only expanded Elias’s knowledge of aviation but also allowed him to pursue a personal passion, offering a memorable glimpse into a potential future career.
