On 17 May, talented Year 9 Chinese student Dara H participated in the NSW Preliminary Round of the 19th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students and achieved an outstanding Second Prize result.
The competition, organised by the Chinese Consulate-General in Sydney and the Sydney HSK Centre, brought together 24 contestants from schools across New South Wales to demonstrate their Chinese language skills and understanding of Chinese culture.
As part of the competition, students completed a Chinese general knowledge quiz, delivered a prepared speech in Mandarin and performed a Chinese cultural item. Dara delivered a confident and engaging speech on the theme of cultural connection and friendship through learning Chinese. He also gave an impressive musical performance, which was very well received by both the judges and the audience.
Throughout the day, students from many different schools showcased a wide variety of cultural performances, including traditional Chinese dance, singing, calligraphy and instrumental music. The event was a wonderful celebration of language learning, intercultural understanding and student talent.
We are proud of Dara’s dedication, confidence and enthusiasm for Chinese learning. His achievement reflects the hard work he has put into studying Chinese, as well as his willingness to embrace new cultures and challenges.
Thank you to Shuyi Wu and Elaine Lin-Palmer High School Chinese Language Teachers for your support and guidance in helping our students achieve at such a high level. Opportunities and achievements like this are a wonderful reflection of the growing strength of our Chinese program.
