Celebrating Learning Through Languages

On Friday 5 June, the Junior School students came together for the Languages Assembly, a celebration of language learning, cultural understanding and student achievement.

Led by Year 6 students and Language Leaders Claire S and Anakin M, the assembly showcased the rich linguistic diversity of IGS through a series of student performances and presentations representing the languages studied across IGS, Chinese, French, German, Italian and Japanese.

The morning began with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by students Yuin J and Shane D, followed by a special Reconciliation segment featuring student speakers Texas B, Alkirah B, Rydah L, Avani P and Roscoe M. Their thoughtful contributions highlighted the importance of recognising and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives.

Students then took the audience on a journey around the world through language, music and performance. Chinese students performed Xi Shua Shua (嘻唰唰), while German students presented German Brands & Products, exploring the influence of German innovation and design. French Continuers shared a lively performance of Je sens le feeling and Italian students showcased their learning through È bello avere and Cos’è la pubblicità?

The assembly also featured Trip to France, a collaborative presentation by French Beginners and Japanese students, demonstrating how language learning opens doors to new cultures, experiences and global connections.

The event concluded with an energetic dance performance led by student David, bringing students, staff and families together in celebration of the joy of learning languages.

Assemblies such as these provide valuable opportunities for students to build confidence, share their learning and develop an appreciation for the many languages and cultures that make up the IGS community. Through authentic language experiences and creative performances, students continue to demonstrate the School’s commitment to Unity Through Diversity.

Thank you to our Languages teachers and students for their dedication and enthusiasm in preparing and presenting such a memorable assembly.
