2026 IGS Vocal Competition

To finish Term 3, students from Years 5 to 12 took to the stage for the annual IGS Vocal Competition, competing across Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions. Now an established fixture in the School’s Music Calendar, this much-anticipated event provides students with an opportunity to explore and perform diverse vocal repertoire spanning classical and contemporary styles.

Supported and guided by their vocal coaches, students presented individual interpretations of their chosen works, using their voices, musicality and storytelling to bring each performance to life. Beyond the competition itself, the event provides an important opportunity for students to build confidence, develop their performance skills and deepen their understanding of a range of musical styles.

This year’s adjudicator was Luke Byrne, an Australian composer, musical director and pianist. He has written and performed with leading Australian companies, including Sydney Theatre Company on The Harp in the South, Muriel’s Wedding and Chimerica.

Luke’s choral music is performed around the world, and he has worked with many youth music organisations, schools and choirs. He has also collaborated with and arranged music for prominent Australian vocal artists including Kate Miller-Heidke, Katie Noonan, Justine Clarke and John Williamson.

 

 

As the IGS Vocal Competition continues to grow, it remains a well-loved event in the Music Program, nurturing confident singers, strengthening their technical skills and preparing them for future performances, including the upcoming auditions for the 2027 Musical Production in Term 4.

Junior Division | Years 5–6

Intermediate Division | Years 7–9

  • Winner: Miranda H

Senior Division | Years 10–12

  • Winner: Luella P
  • Runner-Up: Finn M

Overall Winner

The overall winner of the 2026 IGS Vocal Competition was Miranda Heeney (Year 9).

Congratulations to all students who participated and shared their music with such enthusiasm, commitment and individuality. Their performances were a wonderful celebration of the diversity and talent within our Music community.
