All That Jazz!

The IGS School Hall came alive with the sounds of jazz as we celebrated the remarkable achievements of our High School musicians at the 2026 IGS Music Gala, All That Jazz! Bringing together students from Years 7 to 12, the evening was a spectacular showcase of musical talent, creativity and collaboration, highlighting the depth and diversity of our High School Music Program.

Hosted by 2026 Music Portfolio Leader, Oscar F, alongside our incoming 2027 Music Portfolio Leader, Ben G, the evening welcomed families, friends, colleagues and special guests for a memorable celebration of music-making at IGS.

This year’s theme, All That Jazz!, provided the perfect opportunity to explore the energy, creativity and unmistakable character of jazz across generations. From the smoky jazz clubs and grand sounds of the big band era to contemporary vocal arrangements, film soundtracks and Latin-inspired rhythms, the program celebrated the remarkable diversity of this musical tradition.

The Gala featured an outstanding range of performances from our High School Bands, Choirs, Strings, Guitar and Brass Ensembles, Orchestra and Chamber musicians, alongside featured performances from our Year 12 Graduate Musicians. Each ensemble brought its own distinctive musical character to the stage, demonstrating the technical skill, artistic expression and ensemble commitment developed through countless hours of rehearsals, lessons and performances throughout the year.

A particularly special feature of the evening was the opportunity to recognise our Year 12 Graduate Musicians, celebrating their musical journeys and the significant contribution they have made to the artistic life of IGS. Their performances were a fitting acknowledgement of the dedication, passion and leadership they have demonstrated throughout their time in the Music Program.

Beyond the outstanding performances, the Music Gala celebrated something much greater: the confidence, discipline, resilience and creativity that young musicians develop through their shared musical experiences. Whether performing as part of a large ensemble or stepping forward as a featured soloist, our students demonstrated the courage to take musical risks, the commitment to strive for excellence and the generosity required to make music together.

Events such as the Music Gala are made possible through the extraordinary commitment of our Music Department staff, instrumental tutors and colleagues across the School. Their expertise, encouragement and countless hours of preparation provide the foundation for our students to flourish as confident and capable young musicians.

As we reflect on another outstanding year of musical achievement, we are incredibly proud of the talent, commitment and artistic spirit demonstrated by our High School students. Their voices, instruments and individual musical journeys continue to enrich the cultural fabric of our School.
