Year 2 Explore Water Through Language and Science

Year 2 Chinese and Italian students have been exploring the wonders of water through language, science and practical learning.

In Italian, students investigated floating and sinking, beginning by making predictions about whether different objects would float or sink. They considered how an object’s weight might affect the result before testing their ideas in water.

Students then compared their predictions with what they observed, leading to plenty of discussion, surprises and “I knew it!” moments. The experiment provided an opportunity to develop scientific thinking while using Italian to share ideas and observations.

In Chinese, students explored what happens when sugar dissolves in water. Through a hands-on experiment, they observed the changes, shared their ideas and used Chinese vocabulary related to water and the experiment.

These activities brought language learning to life, giving students opportunities to build vocabulary, ask questions and explore scientific concepts through practical experiences.
