Our Year 5 students recently headed out on their first Outdoor Education camp, a two-night adventure that gave them a taste of the Outdoor Education Program that continues through Years 6–9.
The camp is designed to let students experience the outdoors alongside their peers, build confidence and step beyond their comfort zones. The program began in Kangaroo Valley at The Retreat before the group moved on to The Tops at Stanwell Tops for the remainder of the camp.
Led by qualified instructors from Southbound Adventures and supported by IGS teachers, students embraced a packed schedule of activities. They swung on the Giant Swing, tested their aim at Archery and explored the bush on foot and by Mountain Bike. There was time to cool off with Pool Activities, plenty of Nature Play and a chance to learn through Indigenous Games. Students also heard from a National Parks and Wildlife ranger in an Indigenous talk, gaining a deeper appreciation of the land they were exploring.
Thank you to the Southbound Adventures team, the accompanying teachers and our Year 5 families for their support in making the camp such a success.
