Small Question, Big Difference

On Thursday 10 September, the IGS Community came together to mark R U OK? Day and start conversations about checking in with the people around us.

This year’s theme, Ask R U OK? Any Day, is a great reminder that looking out for each other is not something we should only think about once a year. Sometimes, simply asking how someone is going and taking the time to listen can mean a lot.

The day began at the front gates where the SRC greeted staff and students with stickers, banners, contact cards and other R U OK? Day resources. Charlie, our therapy dog, made a special appearance bringing comfort and cheer to students as they arrived at School.

Students and staff wore yellow and black throughout the day, adding a splash of colour around the School and helping to keep the message visible. Near the school entrance a gratitude poster gave everyone a chance to stop, reflect and leave a positive message for others to read.

In classrooms, students had the opportunity to talk about mental health and wellbeing, including ways to look after themselves and support their friends and classmates.

This year’s R U OK? Day at IGS was a reminder that one question asked with genuine care can change someone’s day. At IGS, opportunities to connect, listen and support one another are an important part of building a caring and connected Community.
