A Night of Music

The 2026 IGS Competition Series came to a close on Wednesday night with the annual IGS Instrumental Competition, featuring students in Years 3 to 11 across Junior, Intermediate and Senior divisions. Running alongside it, the Composition Competition showcased original works by students in Years 5 to 11. Both events are fast becoming highlights of the Music Calendar, celebrating the exceptional musical talent and creativity across the School.

Violin, trumpet, bass guitar, cello, guitar, euphonium, vibraphone and saxophone featured in an impressive range of repertoire. Supported by their instrumental tutors, students demonstrated technical skill, musical sensitivity and individual expression.

Our Adjudicators

Alexandra D’Elia, a violinist and educator formerly with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, adjudicated the Instrumental Competition. Ben Robinson, an award-nominated composer and arranger, adjudicated the Composition Competition.

Both were highly impressed by the standard of performances across all age groups, including our youngest musicians and Senior School students. Their closing remarks offered valuable feedback and encouragement, with a shared message for all students to continue refining their skills, developing their musical craft and embracing every opportunity to grow as performers.
