The IGS Mock Trial team’s outstanding 2026 campaign came to an end on Monday following a valiant performance against Newcastle Grammar School in the second elimination round of the NSW Mock Trial Competition.
IGS faced the extremely difficult task of prosecuting a challenging assault charge. Despite the team presenting its case with determination and professionalism, both the verdict and the performance points went Newcastle Grammar’s way.
Although disappointed, the students accepted the result with maturity and should be enormously proud of reaching the final 16 of this statewide competition. Across five trials this year, the team demonstrated commitment, resilience and teamwork.
Special recognition must go to team captains and barristers Auden G and Ben G. Throughout the competition, they organised the team, managed hundreds of emails and led their peers with confidence and dedication.
“I am incredibly grateful for the leadership they have shown in their final year of Mock Trial. Auden concludes his remarkable involvement after joining the team in Year 9. Both students have bright futures ahead of them and would make fantastic legal professionals,” commented Gareth Douse Mock Trial Coordinator.
Thank you to Georgina Perry and Sue Chrysanthou for their wonderful coaching. They generously gave many hours of their busy lives to prepare, guide and encourage the students through all five trials this year. Their expertise and support have been invaluable.

The baton now passes to the next generation, already wonderfully represented by newcomers Clara, Marla, Joe and Finn. Their enthusiasm and performances this year suggest that the future of Mock Trial at IGS is in very capable hands.
