Exploring Future Pathways

Throughout June, IGS students have had the opportunity to explore future study and career pathways through a series of university discovery programs designed to provide insight into life beyond school.

Students attended the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Discovery Days for Business & Law and Health, joining students from schools across Sydney for a day of learning and career exploration.

The programs gave students the chance to experience university life through interactive workshops led by lecturers and current university students. Participants explored a range of study areas aligned with their interests, while also gaining valuable information about university pathways, student life and future career opportunities.

In addition to participating in workshops, students toured the UTS campus and attended information sessions covering course options, application processes and the transition from school to university.

Year 9 student Keith D also participated in Western Sydney University’s Unlocking Careers in Health & Sport program, a specialist initiative for Indigenous students from across Sydney.

Accompanied by Mrs Carr, Keith took part in hands-on workshops exploring careers in social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and sport and exercise science.

Reflecting on the experience, Keith said he “particularly enjoyed the practical nature of the workshops, which highlighted different aspects of each profession and provided a deeper understanding of potential future career pathways.”

These experiences form part of IGS’s ongoing commitment to support students as they explore their interests, strengths and aspirations, helping them make informed decisions about their futures.

Thank you to Amelia Phillips Careers Advisor and Jade Carr Head of Indigenous Education for supporting students’ participation in these valuable university and career exploration experiences.
