100 Days of Growth

From the excitement of starting Primary School to the confidence of settling into high school, the first 100 days are filled with growth, discovery and memorable moments. This week, both our Kindergarten and Year 7 students marked this special milestone, celebrating how far they have come in their learning, friendships and sense of belonging. While each year group celebrated in its own unique way, both occasions reflected the same spirit of achievement, resilience and the exciting journeys that lie ahead.

 

Celebrating a Century

Today our youngest learners celebrated a milestone in their first year of Primary School – 100 Days of Kindy. Students were greeted at the front gates by Sarah Herbert, Deputy of the Junior School, who welcomed them beneath oversized number 100 balloons – the perfect backdrop for photos with parents and carers.

To mark the occasion, many children came dressed as their own vision of a 100 year old embracing the spirit of the day with enthusiasm. Best elderly voices were practised, walking sticks were wielded with confidence and shuffling gaits were perfected long before the first bell rang.

By recess the Kindergarten playground was a sea of grey wigs and walking canes with Kindergarten teachers joining in the fun too – trading their usual look for character accents and donning their finest pearls for the occasion.

A highlight of the morning came when Ms Herbert made a special appearance with her cane in hand. Kindergarten student Gini spotted her straight away and kindly offered to help her down the stairs – a small moment that captured the warmth of the day perfectly.

Following lunch students celebrated their achievements with cupcakes made by our canteen crew, a well-earned  treat after a busy morning.

The celebration was a lovely reminder of how far our youngest Primary School students have come. We thank all the staff and parents who helped make the day so special for our Kindergarteners.

Year 7 Celebrates 100 Days of High School

The first year of high school is full of new experiences, and this week our Year 7 students celebrated an important milestone – 100 days of high school.

Over the past 100 days, our newest secondary students have grown in confidence as they settled into life at IGS. They have embraced new routines, learned to balance multiple subjects, developed effective study habits and become more independent learners. Along the way, they have formed new friendships, strengthened their wellbeing skills and become active members of our House community through events such as carnivals and other whole-school activities.

To mark the occasion, students took part in a special reflection activity during their English lesson, writing a letter to their future self about their first 100 days of high school. Written on commemorative stationery, the letters will be carefully stored and returned in Year 12, when they have just 100 days of high school remaining, a meaningful reminder of how far they have come.

The celebration also included a special 100 Days cupcake, giving students the opportunity to celebrate together and recognise everything they have achieved in such a short time.

As Semester 2 continues, Year 7 students will keep building on these strong foundations, developing greater independence, responsibility and confidence as they continue their high school journey.
