Did you visit Wilay Gillang (Possum Story)?

During term break our First Nations Artist in Residence Bianca Caldwell (Aunty B) hosted free hands-on creative weaving workshops at the Opera House. With a beautiful range of natural materials children created a wide range of items stemming from their imaginations. There was a focus on animals and Bianca spoke with children about how the hand woven animals would have been used for storytelling in First Nations communities.

A woman sits at a table weaving with straw, whilst a girl in a striped jumper watches. Woven baskets and colourful craft materials are visible on shelves in the background, echoing traditional Wilay Gillang techniques.

We also thank Bianca for helping us to celebrate International Day and we look forward to continuing to connect with and learn with Bianca as our Aunty in Residence in Early Learning.
