Year 11 Artists Selected for Prestigious National Art School Program

IGS is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Year 11 Visual Arts students Alice R and Romeo I, who have both been accepted into the highly competitive National Art School HSC Intensive Studio Program course for 2026.

Two teenagers stand in front of a leafy green background, each smiling. The girl on the left has long brown hair and wears a checked dress, while the boy, one of the Year 11 artists in the art programme, sports a navy polo with a school emblem.

Designed for exceptionally talented and high-achieving Year 11 Visual Arts students, the program provides participants with the opportunity to work in professional art studios, refine their artistic techniques and learn from practising professional artists. The course runs during the July and October school holidays and attracts applications from some of the most accomplished young artists across New South Wales.

To gain entry, Alice and Romeo submitted portfolios of their work demonstrating their artistic skills, creativity and commitment to their practice. Their successful applications place them among a select group of students chosen from a highly competitive field.

Their acceptance into the program is a testament to their talent, dedication and the strength of their developing artistic voices. It also reflects the vibrant culture of creativity and artistic excellence fostered within the IGS Art and Design department.

Below are examples from Alice and Romeo’s first Year 11 Visual Arts body of work, Culture of the City, which showcases their unique perspectives and creative approaches.

Congratulations to Alice and Romeo on this remarkable achievement, and thank you to Sandra Veljanovski Director of Art and Design and the Art and Design Department for their ongoing support and guidance in nurturing young artists to reach their full potential.
