by Rita Morabito

During Term 1, Year 10 Drama have studied, Comedy, Slapstick and Melodrama. Highly creative and original works were devised by Year 10, to perform for our excited and appreciative audience of Year 3 students. Diverse plotlines, settings, and wonderful character creations showcased the students’ physical skills and comedic timing. Bravo Year 10 Drama and thank you Year 3 for the wonderful audience interaction.

Enjoy the Gallery and reflections from the performers.

“This was my first drama assessment and I learnt a lot, not just about melodrama but about the subject of drama as a whole. Even though I practised my performance with my group many times I don’t think anything could compare to the energy of performing in front of an audience, especially since it was a highly enthusiastic and vocal audience.

The genre of melodrama calls for almost constant audience interaction and how the audience would interact back was something that we could not practise when performing by ourselves. The performance brought me more into the atmosphere when I could hear the audience engaged at all moments, whether it was laughing, screaming or responding to rhetorical questions. It made the performance feel alive and brought down that fourth wall between us and them.”  Conor

“Since we were performing for little children, my group and I had to exaggerate 100% as our body language had to carry this story. As I was playing the “damsel in distress” I had to flair my arms and legs to try to act out as the helpless victim.

I really liked the other plays as they had the comedic aspect which made lots of the audience laugh.” Leon

“The year 3’s ended up being perfect to perform for, they laughed and booed and cheered and added so much to the performance.” Margot
