Goblins and ghouls and ghosts filled the School Hall on Friday 13 May for the Spooky Friday Disco.

Primary School students dressed up and danced the afternoon away thanks to the incredible PTF, parents and carers and High School volunteers who made our first disco in two years such a huge success.

“More than 540 kids from Early Learning to Year 6 had a wonderful afternoon of dancing and laughter at our long awaited Spooky PTF Primary School Disco,” said PTF President Hayley Dean.

“This was the first disco we have been able to hold since COVID changed the world over two years ago. Early Learning kicked the afternoon off at 2pm. They sang their hearts out to songs from Frozen and performed the actions to YMCA. The utter joy bounced off the teachers, just as much as the kids themselves!

“Kindy to Year 3 joined the dance floor from 3pm and Years 4 to 6 swung in at 5pm. This year’s dance marked the biggest disco in IGS history! It was incredibly wonderful to see connectedness and community return to IGS.

“The children danced, they sang, had their faces painted, their hair sprayed fun colours and received temporary tattoos.”

Parents and carers handed out almost 1,000 sausages. Students also enjoyed watermelon and grapes.

Hayley gave a special thank you to parents Cress P and Kim T for leading the PTF Disco Team.

“IGS is all the better for having parents like you two,” Hayley said. “You both put hundreds of hours worth of work into this disco. I don’t think people truly understand all the little things you do to make it such a great event. My goodness we are so blessed to benefit from your passion and talents.

“And to Mel W, Tracey G, Sofia Z, Eve F, Pat A, Sam P plus the wonderful IGS staff Mary D, Colin B, Pramod, Craig (the entire facilities and Maintenance team) and David E; thank you for all your hard work too. Many sleepless nights, meetings, paperwork, lists, emails and phone calls. You are all so utterly sensational.”

More than 120 amazing parent and carer volunteers helped out at the event.

Hayley also thanked the After Care team for their wonderful help and Lauren for being a terrific DJ.

“And finally, I promise I will never take for granted just how beautiful our school village is, especially the care shown by the ‘big kids’ for the ‘little kids’.

“The entire committee would like to make a special mention to the following High School students for volunteering your time on a Friday night no less – you all were so wonderful, sweet, gentle and kind. You really made it special for the Primary School kids.”

Warm thanks to Ava, Jordan, Aimee, Harriet, Grace, Carmela, Nell, Zahra, Phoebe, Sofia, Felix, Lola, Oliver, Joe, Ruari, Edward, Ivy, Massimiliano, Sofia, Amelie, Olivia, Oliver, Venice, Scarlett, Daniel, Marla, Angelique, Arlo, Saskia, Eva, Eva, Aria and Lara for their contributions.
