Eight Year 6 students represented IGS at the annual Heads of Independent and Co-Educational Schools (HICES) Gifted and Talented Camp from Monday 31 August to Friday 4 September.
The week-long enrichment experience brought together gifted and talented students from independent schools across the state, providing opportunities to explore new areas of learning, tackle complex challenges and connect with like-minded students.
Each day, students spent several hours immersed in a core area of learning before taking part in shorter elective sessions in the afternoons. The program offered an impressive breadth of topics, from stock market simulation and exploring the Hubble constant and our expanding universe to investigative journalism, stop motion animation and creative writing.
Afternoon electives provided further opportunities to explore new interests, with students planning and building off-grid cabins, writing short stories, undertaking historical inquiry and tackling high ropes courses.
Throughout the week, students embraced new challenges, supported one another in an unfamiliar environment and formed strong connections with students from across the state.
The HICES Gifted and Talented Camp provided a valuable opportunity for our students to extend their learning, explore new possibilities and discover the value of learning alongside others who share their curiosity and enthusiasm.
