This week marks a heartwarming milestone for our School community as we celebrate 10 years of the IGS Canteen. Since opening its doors in 2015, the Canteen has become much more than a place to grab a bite – it’s been a cornerstone of daily life at the School.
At the heart of the Canteen are Patty and her mother Di, who have been a stable and friendly presence since day one. In a touching parallel to the Canteen’s own journey, Patty’s son was born just two days after its opening. He has since journeyed through the Early Learning Centre and is now in Year 4 – a keen athlete and proud Canteen kid.
Located in one of the most vibrant areas of the School, the Canteen has long served as a welcoming space for both students and staff. More than a place to eat, it offers a moment of respite, a warm smile and a sense of community. At the heart of this environment is our dedicated Canteen Manager Patty, whose quiet generosity and commitment have left a lasting impression on all who pass through. Whether providing a healthy meal to a student who forgot their lunch or preparing thoughtful spreads for our weekly staff morning teas, Patty’s kindness and attention to detail are deeply appreciated.
Of course, the success and warmth of the Canteen would not be possible without all the dedicated Canteen staff. It is the result of a cohesive and hardworking team, whose collective efforts ensure the Canteen runs smoothly each day. From managing the lunchtime rush to supporting student volunteers, the Canteen staff consistently demonstrate professionalism, care and genuine dedication to the wellbeing of our School community.
To celebrate this special anniversary, the School treated Primary School students to mini cupcakes delivered to their classrooms (with all dietary needs considered). High School students picked up a free cupcake from the Canteen, which was festively decorated with balloons and banners. In true IGS Canteen style, the team took on the task of baking, icing and decorating 1,300 cupcakes for the occasion – with some staff starting their day at 4.30am to make it happen.
We extend our gratitude to the Anthony family and the Canteen team for 10 years of care, service and smiles. Here’s to a decade of delicious impact – and many more to come.
