Sportsmanship on show

For the first time since 2019, the entire Primary School was able to attend the Athletics Carnival.

On Friday 28 July, every class from Kindergarten to Year 6 gathered at ES Marks Field for the first Primary School-wide Athletics Carnival since 2019. The weather was perfect and the day was filled with excitement and camaraderie.

From sprints to long jumps, high jumps to shot puts, students gave it their all. This year’s carnival also featured a lineup of wheelchair relays and games designed to include all students in the day’s events. “A special thank you for the effort put into organising the wheelchair activities,” said Year 5 Teacher Michelle Weir. “This was truly an IGS scene, and it filled my heart to the brim.”

However, the Athletics Carnival was not just about winning medals or setting records. It was a celebration of the students’ commitment, enthusiasm and teamwork. Each participant, regardless of their individual achievements, contributed to the overall spirit of the event. The students showcased remarkable sportsmanship, encouraging and supporting one another throughout the day, and their positive attitudes and determination were truly commendable.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated team of staff members led by our PDHPE teachers worked tirelessly throughout the day to keep everything running smoothly. The success of this event would not have been possible without their help. “The organisation was impeccable and the new format of running the day was excellent,” said Michelle. “The carnival ran so smoothly and the students participation was the best it has ever been.”
