Inquisitive Minds

Year 7 students proved they were up for a challenge when the Inquisitive Minds workshop came to IGS this week.

Year 7 students recently participated in an engaging and fun Mathematics incursion.

The team from ‘Inquisitive Minds’ were welcomed back to IGS to provide students with a series of problem-solving workshops aimed to improve students’ attitude and performance in Maths.

Students worked collaboratively to think critically and use hands-on material to solve a myriad of exciting problems.

Year 11 volunteers Sabrina and Liv were on hand as enthusiastic mentors.

“There’s a lot of energy and excitement in the room,” said Sabrina.

“They seem to be really enjoying themselves,” said Liv, who agreed that activities like this had helped them settle into high school and make new friends.

When asked about their favourite part of the day Scarlet and Valerie from Year 7 said they loved working in pairs to solve the problems.

“This event has been running at IGS for over 10 years and has been a big hit with the Year 7 students this year,” said Assistant Head of Mathematics Lisa Lin, who organised the day.

Lisa thanked the team from Inquisitive Minds, her fellow teachers, the Year 11 volunteers and STEM Leader Katelyn Clarke, who all helped make this a fantastic day for our Year 7 students.
