On Friday 18 September, students from Years 7 and 8 represented IGS at the Independent Dance Festival, hosted by Inaburra School. The festival brought together young dancers from a range of independent schools across Sydney to celebrate dance as an art form and showcase the creativity, skill and diversity of school dance programs.
IGS students performed two dynamic works: a lyrical contemporary piece to Back to Blonde and an energetic jazz work to Firestarter. Both works were choreographed by IGS alum Moniku Griffith, who has worked closely with the IGS Dance Club as a choreographer over the past two years.
Following the technical rehearsal, students participated in a professional dance workshop, learning choreography alongside dancers from the other participating schools. The students then came together to perform the newly learnt work as part of the festival finale.
The evening culminated in a vibrant showcase for family and friends, featuring an exciting collection of performances from schools across Sydney. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to perform on stage, collaborate with fellow young dancers and celebrate their passion for dance as part of the wider independent school community. We are incredibly proud of the commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism demonstrated by our IGS dancers throughout the festival.
