Three IGS volleyball teams travelled to Homebush in Septermber to compete in the NSW Schools Cup, taking on some of the strongest and most established school volleyball programs in the state across a demanding two-day competition.
Our Year 8 Boys, Year 8 Girls and Year 9 Girls teams represented IGS against experienced opposition, gaining valuable competition experience and putting their skills to the test throughout the tournament.
The teams’ participation is a significant milestone for the IGS volleyball program, which was only launched this year. Competing against schools with long-established volleyball programs provided our students with an opportunity to challenge themselves and experience a high level of competition so early in the program’s development.
A highlight of the tournament came from the Year 8 Girls, who secured their first win of the year. After a series of narrow losses earlier in the season, the team showed composure and teamwork to close out the match and earn a well-deserved result. Their persistence and commitment at training paid off on the court.
Across the two days, all three teams showed steady improvement, growing in confidence with each set. Serving, communication and court movement became increasingly consistent as the tournament progressed, while the players continued to support one another between games.
Congratulations to all three teams on their effort, sportsmanship and commitment throughout the NSW Schools Cup. Their participation marks an exciting early step for the IGS volleyball program, with plenty of opportunities ahead to continue developing their skills and experience.
