IGS Volleyball teams play with great determination

IGS recently competed in the first of three upcoming NSW Volleyball Schools Cups, with two squads of Year 7 boys competing at Sydney Olympic Park.

Having only begun learning the sport at the beginning of the term, the boys were tasked with learning new rules and techniques and putting those into action on the day. They did so with enthusiasm and played with tenacity while maintaining a solid camaraderie among the team.

Special mention to IGS Team G2, who played out an incredibly entertaining group game against Scot’s College, where — after sets were tied at 1 a piece — the boys would fall short by just 1 point. A bit disappointed, the boys showed great determination to bounce back from this in their playoff game against Rooty Hill High School, where the boys would close out the game 2–0 and earn a semi-final rematch against Scot’s.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t meant to be for the boys as Scot’s advanced through the semi-finals, but the teams can be very proud, earning third and fourth place in their first volleyball competition, weeks after first picking up the sport.

Many thanks to coaches staff member James Hackett and coaches Christian Grasso, Zac Gomez and Morris Shaner for their excellent technical advice to support the students on the day.
