PDHPE has gotten off to an exciting start in 2025 with a mix of skill development, competition and innovation. From introducing movement skills in Spanish to structured sport rotations and inter-school competitions, students across all year levels are embracing an active and engaging start to the year.
A Multilingual Approach to Movement
In Primary, students are not only refining their fundamental movement skills but also learning them in Spanish. This has greatly benefited from the arrival of Mr Ricardo Scheihing, our newest team member. This initiative integrates language learning into physical education, broadening students’ cognitive and physical abilities. As Term 1 progresses, different languages will be incorporated into the program, enriching the learning experience.
Years 2–4: Rotations for Fitness and Fun
Students in Years 2 to 4 have started a four-week sport rotation program that will run throughout Semester 1. Activities include fitness games and activities in the school’s fitness facility, specialist-led sport skill sessions, soccer drills and cardio tennis with an experienced external coach. The rotations are designed to enhance fundamental movement skills while keeping students engaged and active.
Years 5–6: Competitive Spirit on Display
For some students in Years 5 and 6, Inter-school sport on Thursdays afternoon have begun, with boys competing in AFL and girls in Touch Football at Queens Park. The teams have had a strong start, securing early wins in the ASISSA competition. With more matches ahead, students are eager to challenge themselves and showcase their teamwork and sportsmanship.
As the year unfolds, IGS remains committed to fostering a love of sport, teamwork and skill development among students. Stay tuned for more updates on our sporting achievements!
