IGS Students on Air with ABC Kids Listen

There's a new sound coming out of the Bibliothèque this semester and it's being broadcast right across the country.

Four IGS students sit around a round table with a laptop, engaged in discussion or group work in a modern classroom or meeting space, collaborating on an assignment inspired by ABC Kids Listen.

The Bibliothèque has been collaborating with ABC Kids Listen to connect students with the producers of News Time, a weekly news podcast for children. Each week, a small group of students from Years 2 to 5 sit down with prompts and questions on current topics, from space and sport to some wonderfully unpredictable subjects in between, giving their honest candid replies. Members of our Podcasting Club have been part of these sessions, picking up first-hand insight into how a professional podcast comes together, from framing a question to capturing the perfect soundbite.

The results are as charming and insightful – IGS students can be heard on News Time episodes released Fridays and Mondays, including these recent favourites:

Counting Aussies and Satisfying Screaming – 10 August

Sparkly Poo and Bizarre Moons – 7 August

Hungry Bear and the Talk of the Town – 3 August

Fresh Passionfruit and Perplexing Exoplanet – 31 July

At just 8 or 9 minutes an episode, News Time is a delightful addition to the school run or the walk to the bus stop, and it tends to spark conversation long after the episode ends.

This partnership with ABC Kids Listen will continue through to the end of the year, with students rotating their turn in front of the microphone each week. We’d love for the whole IGS community to get behind it – tune in each Friday and Monday and see if you can spot a familiar voice among the news of the week.

A special thank you to Christopher Linton Teacher Librarian and Primary Coordinator for organising this wonderful experience for our students.
