High School fun during National Science Week

National Science Week in 2022 celebrated the importance of glass and explores its properties.

“Our High School students had an interesting week with many great activities,” said Head of Science Liz Turner.

“You are reading this website using the glass screen of your computer or mobile phone. Solar panels have a glass surface. These convert solar energy into the electrical energy needed for computers. Optical fibres used to transmit information are made of glass. Maybe you are even using glasses to read this!”

Years 7 and 8 students explored how light can be reflected through optical fibres using LED lights and jelly.

Years 9 and 10 explored the future with holograms.

Years 7 to 10 made Kaleidoscopes which are being used in Science shows for Kindergarten to Year 4 classes in Weeks 5 and 6.
