Exploring Creativity Through Our Artist in Residence Program

IGS’s inaugural Artist in Residence Program has brought Sydney-based artist Lei Feng into the School to share her contemporary art practice with students in Year 2, Year 5, Years 9 and 10 Visual Arts, Koori Club and staff.

Launched in August by the IGS P&C in partnership with IGS, the residency featured hands-on workshops inspired by the four IGS Houses: Baado (Water), Bamal (Earth), Gura (Wind) and Kuyal (Fire).

Through material exploration and creative experimentation, students investigated themes of movement, environment and transformation. The workshops encouraged students to take creative risks, develop independent ideas and collaborate, with an emphasis on the process of making rather than technical perfection.

The residency provided students with insight into contemporary artistic practice while fostering curiosity, confidence and creative thinking across different year levels. It also created opportunities for cross-cultural and interdisciplinary learning, strengthening connections between professional artistic practice and learning at IGS.

As the inaugural residency concludes, it leaves a foundation for continued creative inquiry and connection across the IGS community, reinforcing the value of curiosity, experimentation and learning through the process of making.

Thank you to Artist Lei for sharing her artistic practice, knowledge and creativity with us!
