Block and construction play facilitates rich and meaningful discussions about mathematics, including length, measurement, estimation, height, weight, symmetry and balance.
“Construction and block play provide deeper, hands on understandings and meanings of real world and play based contexts,” said Early Childhood Teacher Sonja Wiedenmaier.
“It is wonderful to observe the children experience the satisfaction that can come from overcoming obstacles and setback and solving problems with others.”
Claudia and Rory (pictured) enjoyed construction with magnetic blocks.
“It allowed them to build and deepen positive relationships with each other, as they discussed and negotiated in making decisions about their building challenge.”
Sonja added that the children offered suggestions to one another and expressed appreciation of the efforts and accomplishments of others.
