An Australian first! IGS and The Alliance for Sustainable Schools

IGS is the first Australian school to be a founding member of The Alliance for Sustainable Schools (TASS). TASS is an international non-profit network of schools working together to help accelerate the transition to a sustainable future.

Two IGS students, Madeleine Hayen and Lucius Moechtar, have been onboarded as student ambassadors. They will have the opportunity to network with other ambassadors around the world, collaborating with TASS team in Hong Kong and leading companies in the cities where they live. The students will also gain training in systems thinking and be advocates for sustainable alternatives to the currently unsustainable systems in the five areas of TASS.

IGS now shares a commitment to the principles of the Sustainable Schools Charter which our Principal, Ms Shauna Colnan, signed when IGS joined The Alliance. The School will dedicate their efforts to the common mission stated in the Charter, which is “to inspire a lifelong love of learning, and equip our students with the skills and knowledge to become responsible and empowered global stewards who work collaboratively to build a sustainable future for our planet. We recognise the seriousness of our ecological crises – including climate change, biodiversity loss, deforestation, pollution and water scarcity – and the challenges they pose for the health and wellbeing of our students and the global community. As sustainability stewards, we recognise our shared responsibility as caretakers to care for our planet on behalf of future generations.”

We invite you to join us in warmly congratulating Mr Fedele and our new TASS Ambassadors Madeleine and Lucius. We look forward to supporting them as they represent IGS as a new member of The Alliance for Sustainable Schools.
