Music is an integral part of life at our School, with students encouraged to develop their musical skills through a comprehensive Extracurricular Music Program.
Students begin by building their skills through private instrumental or vocal tuition with specialist music tutors, delivered on a rotational timetable throughout the school day. This learning is complemented by an extensive Musicianship Program that develops music theory, aural skills, composition, and overall musical understanding.
To grow their skills and confidence, the Core Music Ensemble Program provides every student with the opportunity to learn and perform through a diverse range of music groups. Students are encouraged to participate in a core ensemble that matches their year level, instrument skills, or musical interest, to develop musicianship and ensemble skills while building a strong foundation for other pathways as part of the IGS Extracurricular Music Program.
As students progress, participation in a Core Ensemble provides the pathway to auditioned extension opportunities, including chamber groups, jazz ensembles, and contemporary ensembles, allowing them to further develop musical excellence through increasingly challenging performance experiences.
Students receiving specialist tuition are expected to contribute to the creative life of the School through regular participation in the Music Ensembles and Groups Program, sharing their musical talents with the wider school community through rehearsals and performances.
