Please refer to the overview below regarding each IGS ensemble. 

MONDAYS

7.30am – Symphonic Winds (Rm 311)

This large ensemble is for Years 7-10 wind, brass and percussion players with 1-2 years of experience playing their instruments. Any students who were in Kelly Street Band last year are most welcome to join, as well as anyone new to the school.

7.30am: Bay Street Band Tutorials 

Part of the Year 5 Instrumental Program

7.50am: Junior Orchestra (Rm 307)

This ensemble is for students in Years Kindergarten to 2 who wish to play recorder, strings or mallet percussion.

1.00pm: Senior Strings (Rm 307)

This chamber ensemble is for Year 7 to 12 violin, viola, cello and double bass students with at least three years of tuition. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion. 

Students who participate in the Senior Orchestra are permitted to join Senior Strings. 

1.00pm: Saxophone Ensemble (Rm 301)

This chamber ensemble is for Years 7 to 12 alto, tenor and baritone saxophone players with at least two or more years of experience. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion. Students who participate in a large ensemble are permitted to join the Saxophone Ensemble. 

2.35pm: Year 5 Bay Street Band, Year 5 Training Band Tutorials, Year 5 Beginner Strings, Year 5 Bay Street Strings, Year 5 Continuer Strings and Year 5 Music Explorer

These ensembles are all part of the Year 5 Instrumental Program.

4.00pm: The Sound Lounge Collective (Rms 305 and 307)

This collective provides Year 7 to 12 students with the opportunity to develop their skills in contemporary music making and digital audio production. Students in Sound Lounge can play in a pop/rock band or use audio software to create new music. Students will need to be having lessons on their instruments and/or familiarity with DAWs.

TUESDAYS

7.30am: Year 4 and 5 Training Band (Rm 311) and Beginner Strings Rehearsals (Rm 307)

Part of the Year 4 and 5 Instrumental Program.

7.30am: Senior Vocal Ensemble

Any students in Years 7 to 12 who like to sing are welcome to join.

12.20pm: Primary Guitars (Rm 301)

This ensemble is for Years 3 to 6 students who are currently having guitar lessons. Bass guitarists are also welcome. 

1.00pm: Senior Brass Ensemble (Rm 311)

This chamber ensemble is for trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium or tuba students in Years 7 to 12 who have had at least two years of tuition. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion. Students who participate in a large ensemble are permitted to join the Brass Ensemble. 

2.35pm: Year 4 Training Band Tutorials, Year 4 Beginner Strings Tutorials, Year 4 Continuer Strings and Year 4 Music Explorer

These ensembles are all part of the Year 4 Instrumental Program

WEDNESDAYS

7.30am: Wind Orchestra (Rm 311)

This large ensemble is for Year 7 to 12 students who play wind, brass or percussion instruments with three or more years of experience. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion.

12.20pm: Primary School String Quartet (Rm 305)

This small ensemble is a select group of committed students who enjoy playing high level string quartet music. Membership to this ensemble is by invitation only.

1.00pm: Percussion Ensemble (Rm 311)

This ensemble is for Year 7 to 12 students undertaking percussion lessons. It is sometimes run as a “Pop Up” group, rehearsing for specific performances or events.

THURSDAYS

7.30am: Kelly Street Band (Rm 311)

This large ensemble is for wind, brass and percussion students, mainly in Year 6, with one to two years of experience playing their instrument. Students who participated in Bay Street Band last year are most welcome to join. 

7.30am: Sarasate Strings (Rm 307)

This string ensemble is for Years 3 to 6 violin, viola, cello and double bass students with at least a year of experience on their instrument.

12.20pm: Recorder Ensemble (Rm 305)

This ensemble is for students from K to 6 looking to extend their studies in recorder and play repertoire with multiple parts, including the full range of recorders (Descant, Treble, Tenor and Bass). Students need to be able to read music, and having private lessons is encouraged for the younger students. 

1.00pm: Woodwind Ensemble (Rm 311)

This chamber ensemble is for flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon students in Year 7 to 12 who are receiving private tuition and have had at least two years of experience on their instrument. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion. Students who participate in a large ensemble are permitted to join Woodwind Ensemble. 

1.00pm: IGS Voices (Rm 307)

This is a select group of girls from Years 7 to 12 with experience singing repertoire in multiple-parts. Entry to this ensemble is by invitation only. 

3.15pm: Kindergaten to Year 2 Choir and Years 3 to 6 Choir 

These choirs are for any student in either Kindergarten to Year 2 or 3 to 6 who enjoys singing. 

FRIDAYS

7.30am: Senior Orchestra (Rm 311)

This large ensemble is for Year 7-12 students on strings, wind and percussion who have had 3 or more years of experience on their instrument. Students with less experience but a high level of achievement may be invited to join at the Ensemble Director’s discretion.

7.30am: Paganini Players (Rm307)

This string ensemble is for Year 3-6 violin, viola, cello and double bass students with a minimum of two years of experience on their instrument. Students in High School may join this ensemble at the Ensemble Director’s discretion. 

12.20pm: Mojo Xylos (Rm 305)

This is for students in Years 3-6 who are keen to learn to play a classroom xylophone instrument, and no experience is required.
