Year 9 Explore Morton National Park

The Year 9 Camp in Morton National Park last week proved to be a compelling experience, fostering a profound sense of camaraderie within the cohort. From the tranquil waters of canoeing the Kangaroo River to the exhilarating mountain biking skills activity, each facet of the journey showcased outdoor exploration.

Beginning with an introductory workshop at the IGS Retreat, students learnt how to orientate a map, efficiently pack a backpack and participated in team-based initiatives with students coming together to collaborate and support one another.

Students then made their way to various campsites throughout Kangaroo Valley, rotating through experiences including stand-up paddleboarding, canoeing, mountain biking and Indigenous-based activities.

This camp also marked the start of the Duke of Edinburgh journey for participating Bronze Students. This program encourages and supports young people to build resourcefulness and develop important and relevant life skills outside the classroom. The camp added an extra layer of accomplishment for students, pushing them to their limits and providing a sense of pride upon completion.

Camp activities combined adventure, personal growth, and peer enjoyment. Many thanks to the teachers who gave their time to lead and create such a memorable experience for all.
