Year 5 Student Recognised at Prestigious NSW Community Languages Awards

On Thursday 4 September 2025, Year 5 student Anton D was recognised with a Highly Commended Award at the NSW Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Student Achievement in Community Languages Schools for his study of Ukrainian.

Anton, who studies German as his core language at IGS, has also shown remarkable dedication to maintaining and celebrating his Ukrainian heritage. His award was presented by Dr Sylvia Corish, Chair of the NSW Community Languages Schools Advisory Committee and Executive Director, Student Support and Specialist Programs at the Department of Education, in a ceremony that honoured students across NSW who are keeping community languages alive.

Reflecting on the achievement, IGS Principal Shauna Colnan shared, “Anton is living our value of Personal Achievement through this accomplishment and all the effort that he is putting into his studies.”
