Year 5 STEAM with Newington

As part of an ongoing collaboration with Newington College, Year 5 students visited the Lindfield campus for a STEAM-infused workshop.

Working in mixed teams, students were challenged to design and build a sustainable seed dispersal object. They began with a bush walk to gather natural resources for their designs before moving into the build phase. Each group then pitched their ideas, explaining how their object would work in the environment.

The workshop encouraged creativity, problem solving and teamwork, giving students the chance to apply their Science and Technology learning in a real-world context. At IGS, STEAM learning spans from the Early Learning Centre through to the Senior School, offering students opportunities to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in integrated and hands-on ways. From robotics and coding to environmental projects, design thinking and creative problem solving, our programs encourage students to think critically, collaborate effectively and develop the skills needed for the future.
