This week, our Year 6 students embarked on an exciting three-day excursion to Canberra. The tour has been thoughtfully designed to support their Term 2 learning in the Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) subject, particularly the History unit, Australia as a Nation.
The excursion provided students with an opportunity to explore Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
Highlights of the visit included:
- A tour of Parliament House and participation in the Parliamentary Education Office program
- A visit to the Aboriginal Tent Embassy
- Sessions at the Electoral Education Centre and the Museum of Australian Democracy
- Exploration of the National Portrait Gallery and the National Museum of Australia
- A meet-and-ride with Cycle Canberra
- Tours of the Australian Institute of Sport and the High Court of Australia
- A hands-on science experience at Questacon
- A reflective visit to the Australian War Memorial
This rich educational experience deepened students’ understanding of the development of Australia as a democratic nation and inspired their engagement as active, informed citizens. Thank you to our dedicated Year 6 teachers for guiding and supporting students throughout this learning journey, and everyone involved in making this trip happen.
