Vibrant Performances at IGS K-2 Speech Day

This week, IGS Speech Day celebrated the efforts and achievements of our students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2.

The event started with the Junior Orchestra singing ‘Can You Sing This’ by James Madsen followed by Principal Shauna Colnan’s reflections for students and family. As part of her speech, Ms Colnan said “At IGS we embrace the new, always, and so there were many new and important initiatives this year,” and shared some upcoming news for the School and its 40th anniversary. From Kindergarten to Year 2, all students had an incredible time performing for their friends and family, filling the School Hall with their smiles and beautiful presentations.

2023 has been a wonderful year of evolution for these students. Thanks to our teachers, the students were able to learn and grow in a warm, safe and supportive environment. Beyond the classroom, students made their mark on our vibrant School too, displaying enthusiasm, determination, adaptability and kindness.

K-2 Koori Club cultural performance

Koori Club students have been participating in cultural dance workshops with IGS parent Tim Bishop and Katie Leslie from Jannawi Dance Clan. Both have worked with the students on a number of traditional dances with the goal to perform in front of their peers on Speech Day.

Jade Carr Head of Indigenous Education noted, “Three weeks of dance lessons culminated today in the interlude performance at our K-2 Speech Day. I am so proud of all of the kids for being so strong and proud in their culture today. An extra big shout out to the big kids for assisting and dancing together.”

Their presentation was inspiring and a huge success. Congratulations to everyone involved!
