Thriving within: IGS Principal Shauna Colnan announces new leadership promotions

IGS Principal Shauna Colnan has announced three significant internal promotions set to commence at the start of the 2024 school year.

Newly created leadership roles

The roles of Head of Children’s Programs and Coordinator of Primary Co-curricular Programs have been newly created to enhance children’s programs at IGS, encompassing Early Learning, Out of School Hours Care, After School Care, Vacation Care, and the Primary Co-curricular Program.

Sarah Herbert has been named the inaugural Head of Children’s Programs due to her extensive teaching experience, her ability to craft a compelling vision for early childhood education and care, and her deep knowledge of Early Childhood Frameworks and relevant regulations. Her successful tenure at the Early Learning Centre, where she achieved the highest ‘Exceeding’ rating in every area of the National Quality Standard, makes her the ideal fit for this new role at IGS.

David Engelbert has been appointed as the Coordinator of Primary Co-curricular Programs, having effectively led the School’s Out of School Hours Care program. Mr Engelbert brings proven leadership skills and a strong commitment to providing meaningful co-curricular opportunities for students to the role. His innovative vision for the co-curricular program aligns seamlessly with an evolving educational landscape.

Ms Shauna Colnan congratulated Ms Herbert and Mr Engelbert on their well-deserved appointments to these vital positions, emphasising their significant role in the ongoing education and development of the school’s students.

New ELC Head of School

In 2024 Victoria Kirkwood will assume the position of Director of Early Learning. Ms Kirkwood is an experienced teacher with a demonstrated track record in leadership and the development, implementation, and review of early learning educational programs. She is committed to leading a team that supports the creation of rich educational experiences for children in alignment with the school’s unique philosophy, incorporating languages and music, the Early Years Framework, and National Quality Standards.

Ms Colnan congratulated Ms Kirkwood on her new position saying Victoria’s extensive professional experience and practice in the early education sector, and her current experience as Deputy Head of School Early Learning and Educational Leader, are an excellent fit for this position.

These internal promotions are an affirmation that the dedication and leadership of those recognised contribute immeasurably to the educational journey provided to our students. We extend our warm thanks and congratulations on these well-deserved appointments.
