Book Week was a wonderful celebration across IGS highlighting the importance of reading and connecting students with the joy of stories. . Character parades filled the School with colour and creativity as students stepped out as their favourite book characters – the costumes were a joy to see with clear thought and care behind every outfit. Teachers got in on the fun too, dressing up alongside their classes and showing students that a love of stories does not stop at the classroom door.
This year’s theme Symphony of Stories gave the celebrations extra meaning. The idea is that many different stories, voices and characters come together to create something far richer than any single book could on its own much like the many instruments of an orchestra combining to create a symphony. It was a fitting backdrop to a week where so many different characters and stories filled our halls and classrooms at once.
Before school each day pupils gathered for a book swap giving everyone the chance to discover a new favourite story and pass on one they had already loved. Classrooms across the School joined in with their own Book Week activities bringing reading to life in different ways for every year group. Our Bibliothèque sitting at the heart of the main building was a hub for much of the week’s excitement – a reminder of just how central it is to life at our School every day of the year, not only during Book Week.
We were also delighted to hear from Broccoli (Mr Linton) and Ms Pebbles (Ms Light) who spoke to students about what this year’s theme means within our School community and why reading continues to matter so much in and out of the classroom.
Book Week is about more than costumes and parades, it is a chance to celebrate the joy of reading and to remind our community that stories in all their different forms have the power to connect us, shape how we see the world and bring us together as a School community.
