As part of the 2026 National Science Week celebrations, Early Learning children, Kindergarten to Year 3, Year 8 and Year 10 and 11 students took part in a range of engaging activities inspired by this year’s theme, Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All.
For our youngest learners in the ELC, Science Week was all about developing curiosity, collaboration and a love of discovery. Children explored a range of hands-on science experiences, including chemical reactions and experiments that encouraged them to investigate different ingredients and observe the outcomes.
The ELC’s Science Week activities continued with a visit from Year 10 and 11 Science students, supported by Liz Turner Head of Science. Working alongside their younger peers, the students facilitated a series of activities inspired by the theme. ELC children explored how seeds grow into plants, examined different types of seeds and fruit using magnifying glasses, created seed paper helicopters and investigated seeds hidden in sensory trays.
The cross-year collaboration provided a wonderful opportunity for our youngest learners to explore scientific concepts alongside older students, while encouraging a shared sense of curiosity and discovery across the school.
Kindergarten to Year 3 students also enjoyed Seeds of Curiosity, an exciting live science experience presented by Street Science. The high-energy show explored how simple questions can grow into powerful discoveries. Through spectacular demonstrations, surprising experiments and interactive learning, students saw how scientific ideas have developed over time and continue to shape the world around us.
Year 8 and Year 11 students delved further into fundamental scientific principles, significant developments in science and the ways scientific knowledge is being applied to modern technologies and future innovations. Through engaging demonstrations and experiments, they explored how curiosity and scientific investigation can lead to new discoveries.
From investigating a tiny seed to exploring the science behind future innovations, Science Week encouraged IGS students of all ages to ask questions, experiment and discover where their curiosity might lead.
