The past fortnight has been a time of focus and steady progress at IGS, with a balance of enriching events and excursions alongside a calm and supportive environment for our HSC students. Across the School, learning has been complemented by opportunities to recognise achievement, enjoy music and performance, and engage in conversations about important global issues.
The Junior School Assembly brought together the K–2 Choir, the 3–6 Choir and the whole School for performances including Banaha, a traditional Congolese folk song, and Funga Alafia, a traditional West African folk song, with a special dance solo by Claire S.
The High School Assembly was an occasion for recognition and reflection, as Principal Shauna Colnan presented the Principal’s Outstanding Effort awards to students from Year 7 to 11 for excelling in all their subjects. We congratulate these students and commend their hard work and dedication throughout the semester.

Guest speaker Ade Feben from the Freedom Hub spoke about the prevalence of modern slavery, a serious global issue that affects millions of people today. Learning about this topic helps students understand the ongoing challenges faced by vulnerable communities and the importance of taking informed action. In response, the School has initiated Freedom Day on 22 August to raise awareness and support for those affected. On this day, students will wear blue and contribute through a gold coin donation, with funds going directly to the Freedom Hub, which assists victims of modern slavery as they rebuild their lives and reintegrate into society.
