Primary Concert Launches 2025 Series

By Darren Kuilenburg

On Wednesday evening, the IGS School Hall came alive with vibrant sounds of music as our talented Primary students presented their first concert of the year. The Primary Ensembles Concert featured a rich program showcasing Bay Street Band, Kelly Street Band, Sarasate Strings, Paganini Strings, 3–6 Choir, Primary Chamber Group and the Primary Guitar Ensemble.

Each ensemble brought a unique musical voice to the stage. Highlights included Bay Street Band’s energetic Bandroom Rock and soulful Lean on Me, and the 3–6 Choir’s expressive performances of Shoshone Love Song and High Street. Sarasate Strings performed the stirring Symphonic Variants on Ode to Joy, while the Primary Guitar Ensemble added flair with Waka Waka. Kelly Street Band delivered lively renditions of Danza Africa and Fiesta, the Chamber Group performed a refined Trumpet Tune by Purcell, and Paganini Strings closed the night with a bold interpretation of Schubert’s Marche Militaire.

We thank our dedicated conductors, Richard Brus, Erica Byrne, Joanna Buggy, Yvonne Brown, Heath Parker, Andy Scott and Henry Avila, for their expertise and inspiring leadership. Their support, along with that of our brilliant Music Tutors and families, helped make the evening a success.

We are incredibly grateful to our Head of Music Performance Mr Nathanael Primrose-Heaney for all his guidance and leadership in bringing together all the elements for this end of term concert.

The concert was a heartwarming celebration of creativity, collaboration and musical growth. Congratulations to all our young musicians for a confident and spirited performance. What a fantastic way to start our concert series for 2025!
