Old Friends, New Memories

The IGS Class of 1997 was not large. Some began their IGS journey at Randwick in the 1980s. All spent their formative years at the Surry Hills campus and Ward Park. They also were part of a significant chapter in IGS history, attending High School during its transition through a temporary site while our current campus was being built, and were among the first students to call our present address home.

On Sunday July 27, twelve of these hardy souls, who are now in their 40s, went on a tour of our current campus. They were delighted with the growth and changes and we’re particularly impressed with the standard of the facilities. Many got a bit emotional when they revisited places of warm memory.

These days they have families, are architects, business people, film makers, lawyers and IT gurus. They have lived and are living overseas.

What was very apparent was that the bond forged at IGS is still very strong! This was a cohort that went on weekends to the Blue Mountains together, who have remained close, despite years of being in various countries and parts of Australia and who remain the dearest of friends.

Their regard for each other and for the school that helped create these friendships was obvious and really heartwarming. These reunions offer a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the successful and fine people our Alums have become!
