Noriko performs at the Japan Expo

Congratulations to Japanese Teacher Noriko Yamanaka who performed with Cousin Quartet at the Japan Expo, held at the Great Hall at the University of Sydney.

Noriko and Cousin Quartet played Japanese traditional songs such as Tanabata (Star Festival), Koinobori (Children’s Day Celebration), Tsuki (Moon viewing event) and Furusato (Hometown) as well as Joe Hisaishi’s arrangement Studio Ghibli Music ‘Ponyo on the Cliff by the sea’ ポニョ ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ トトロ and ‘Laputa ラピュタ: Castle in the Sky’.

“There were more than 5,000 people

who visited Japan EXPO and visitors enjoyed Japanese food, drink (Sake), sweets and experienced hands-on various Japanese cultural workshops such as Origami workshop. Tourism booths were very popular as many people were planning to visit Japan. It was broadcasted by JNN National News (TBS NEWS),” said Noriko.

“On the stage there was a 着物 Kimono demonstration, 生花 Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), 書道 Shodo (Japanese Calligraphy),空手 Karate and 弓道 Kyudo (Japanese archery) demonstration, Noriko with Cousin Quartet and 桜コーラス Sakura Choir entertained visitors. In the evening there was a special performance by Okinawa musicians and an Okinawa dance performance. It was a huge successful event. Congratulations Noriko!”
