Year 11 explore Still Life

Year 11 Visual Arts students have recently completed a Unit on the Art Historical tradition of Still Life.

“This unit emphasised the genre of Vanitas painting, which was made popular in the 16th Century. Vanitas works saw symbols of human mortality incorporated into artworks,” said Director of Art and Design Drew Bickford.

“Students created bodies of work that referenced the Latin phrase ‘memento mori’ (remember to die) and these featured a variety of symbolic reminders of our short time on Earth. Drawing, painting, sculpture and film were used in creative ways to explore this grim but important period in Art History.”
