Library Lovers’ Day in the Bibliothèque

While the rest of the world celebrated Valentine's Day on 14 February, IGS began a month-long celebration of everything we love about books and the Bibliothèque.

“Library Lovers’ Day celebrates the joy of visiting the Bibliothèque and getting lost in the pages of a good book, or discovering more about an idea or issue that you are passionate about,” said Bibliothèque Assistant Director Patrice Marchbank.

“This year’s theme is ‘Show the Love’ and students have been invited to share messages a favourite story, a quote from a poem, a message of gratitude, or even a story about their favourite pet.”

Hattie in Year 4 loves the Bibliothèque “because it is a quiet place to read”.

Grace, also in Year 4 shared that she loves “the experience of reading and all the stories that follow”.

A big fan of the day, Library Technician Annemarie Re has created an interactive display of gift-wrapped books which will be available as a lucky dip for Kindergarten to Year 12 students for the rest of the month.

In the Bibliothèque we have decided to extend this special day for the month of February to celebrate the valuable role that our school library plays in the lives of all our students and school community at International Grammar School,” Annemarie said.

“We have shown the love in the Bibliothèque with a display of student ‘love’ messages!”

The display also holds a selection of books wrapped in brown paper to encourage the students to borrow books from a wider range of genres that they may not usually select!

“The aim is to encourage students to have fun, give a new book a try and perhaps find the next book that they will absolutely love,” Annemarie said.
