IGS HSC ‘all-rounder’ Felix chose courses he enjoyed

IGS HSC distinguished 'all-rounder' Felix Tonkin said selecting exciting courses helped him achieve his best in the 2021 HSC.i

Felix achieved an ATAR of 97.4 and a place on the coveted NESA “all-rounder” list by placing in the top bands for Drama, English Advanced, English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Mathematics Advanced and Visual Arts.

“People might tell you to study this or that, but do what’s interesting,” Felix said.

“At the end of the day, that’s the way you are going to learn best. If you can show you are passionate about what you are doing, that’s what counts.”

Felix’s other advice to younger students is to “enjoy high school”.

For Felix, Year 12 was “the most fun year” because “everyone becomes friends and everyone works together”.

“It’s a lot of work, but it’s also a lot of fun.

“It was obviously a challenge, and staying motivated was the biggest challenge, especially at home, but the times we got back in to school and saw everyone were really special, and I cherish that.

“Make sure you stay connected with friends and know that you are in this together.”

Felix, who plans to study Psychology at the University of Sydney along with some Philosophy, said he was surprised he did so well.

“I can relax at least for a few weeks now, and see how things go.”

All the very best, Felix!
