HICES Meeting and Climate Fresk

By Carmelo Fedele

IGS hosted the HICES Educators for Sustainability meeting on Monday 29 July. We welcomed teachers from all over NSW to share our sustainability journey and collaborate with educators about how best to make progress in our schools.

A group of 18 people, smiling and standing indoors on a wooden floor, pose for a group photo at the HICES Meeting in front of a TV screen and a mural. Most are dressed in business casual attire.
We also hosted students from Oxley College in the Southern Highlands who participated in a Climate Fresk workshop, facilitated by IGS students Lexie Pilcher, Hugh Gibbons, Maya Isbister, Lilla Smyth Langdon and Auden Graves.

A woman wearing a red shirt and black jacket gestures upwards with her right hand while giving a presentation at the HICES Meeting, looking in the direction she is pointing during a Climate Fresk session.

Highlights from the day were keynote speaker Sue Martin who has been a leading voice in Australian Sustainability Education for over 20 years, a tour of the school led by IGS students and sessions about the IGS waste audit and its integration of Climate Fresk.

One participant, Tracy Foyster from Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School commented, “Thank you for hosting our EfS meeting at IGS. It was inspiring to learn about the IGS Sustainability Journey.”

At IGS our student-led Sustainable Futures group, under the guidance of Head of Sustainability Carmelo Fedele, plays a vital role in driving sustainability initiatives within our School. This group empowers students to take ownership of projects and actively engage in environmental issues.
