Hands-On History

Diving deep into history isn't just about reading texts; it's about feeling the past come alive in your hands.

Year 11 English Extension 1 got hands-on at the Chau Chak Wing Museum, touching the very artefacts that weave the tapestry of Greek history. In addition to exploring the tangible remnants of ancient Greece, Year 11 also embarked on a journey delving into the adaptations of the Odyssey throughout history. They scrutinised how various cultures and epochs have interpreted and reshaped this timeless epic, examining how its context and content have evolved over millennia. By tracing the Odyssey’s path through different periods and societies, students gained a deeper appreciation for the enduring impact of this seminal work on global literature and culture.

Through this multifaceted exploration, Year 11 will not only enrich their understanding of classical literature but also develop a nuanced perspective on the dynamic relationship between tradition and innovation across the ages.

The Chau Chak Wing Museum, located at the University of Sydney, is a renowned institution showcasing diverse collections spanning art, archaeology, natural history, and cultural artefacts.

Thank you to Ms Pool for organising this excursion and Mr Marchbank for supervising.
