Extension 2 Maths students dive into complex concepts!

With a break in the rain, students headed outside to gain a deeper understanding of geometrical properties of complex numbers.

In their study of complex numbers, and with the help of Mr Nguyen, Mr Mueller and Ms Church, Extension 2 Mathematics students enhanced their understanding of the Loci; paths traced out given a set of Mathematically defined conditions.

They were given instructions, such as to stand equidistant from a fixed point to form a circle, or equidistant from a fixed point (focus) and a straight line (directrix) to form a parabola.

Following this activity, students used Geogebra to graph such loci by inputting algebraic instructions.

All of the students and teachers enjoyed this activity and the students have since reflected on this activity as they continue to learn about the geometrical properties of complex numbers in future lessons.
